Great Piece of Architecture

The Interior of the Pantheon

I studied the Pantheon in the previous year in Architectural History and Theory. I found it striking that the architect and his workforce was able to make such a remarkable dome in 126AD without the aid of many modern construction equipment. The dome is still the worlds largest non-reinforced continuously cast dome without any seams.  Additionally the oculus in the middle allows natural light through at anytime of the day, and since there is no glass covering, rain also falls through the oculus. An interesting feature was that the time of the day could also be seen as a light ring moves across the dome and creates stunning shadows against the recessed coffers.
